Limelight

The light from the lime seems to really make the surrounding box glow, even though it is a rather dull brown. It is amazing to see how much the different colors in the fruit can influence and change the color of the box. This is turning out to be a fun series of paintings!

You can now follow me on my new  Facebook Fan Page.  It is still a work in progress, but please check it out, and be sure to click the "like" button.

Alone at the Top

I have an old wooden box that is divided into sections.  I stood it on its side, and it makes a great stage for these colorful cherries.  The sides of the box create some shadows, as well as afford the possibility of putting the objects on two different levels, making for an interesting composition.  I had a lot of fun with it, and did a couple of paintings using this theme.  Stay tuned for more!

"Fresh Strawberries"

                                              SOLD

A few weeks ago we spent some time in Charleston, SC, and the strawberries were just coming into peak season.  These were delicious and just begged to be painted.

"Cool One"

Summer is here and nothing is better than a "cool one" on a hot day. Do you recognize this bottle?  I wanted it to be recognizable as a Heineken bottle, but without actually painting the details of the label. I used color, value and shape to create the illusion of text.  I think it worked.

"Coffee and Dessert"

                                             SOLD

Espresso and a chocolate, a great after dinner combination.  I enjoyed painting the foil wrapper, though capturing the subtle variations in value and color is definitely a challenge!

Red Chopsticks

                                   SOLD

This painting is one of my favorites.  I love the line of bright red created by the chopsticks.

I have not been blogging recently, but I have been busy painting.  Beginning Tuesday, June 14, I will be offering two small 6x6 paintings for auction on dailypaintworks.com.  This is a brand new art auction website and is open to all artists.  Until recently it has been only open for the featured artists at Daily Paint Works and for the "Help Japan Auction" in which I participated in March.  I am happy to be among the first "outsiders" who will sell my work on this site, so stay tuned to see two new paintings every week.

In addition, I am happy to announce that I will be teaching a workshop at the Boca Grande Art Alliance, Boca Grande, FL,  Wednesday through Friday, November 9 - 11, 2011.  This three day workshop will focus on the process of painting a still life, from life.  For more information, go to bocagrandeartalliance.org, or call 941 964 1700. This promises to be a fun time and a great opportunity for me to share my still life painting approach.  Boca Grande is a lovely little town on an island off the coast of Venice, FL, and a wonderful place to visit.
